UNIS HAVE VESTED INTERESTS TOO, The Australian, (30 September 2011)

Gavin Moodie criticises the Australian Council of Educational Research (HES, September 21) as having a vested interest in promoting psychometric tests and labels it a private company.

What he fails to say is that working for a public university, he similarly has a vested interest in advocating greater taxpayer funds going to tertiary education.

The difference between a private company such as ACER and a public university such as RMIT is that while the former obtains its funds directly from customers and businesses paid voluntarily, the latter obtains it through compulsorily taxed income acquired by the commonwealth.
