UCAT ANZ 2021 ONLINE TESTING CONFIRMED!

The UCAT Consortium has confirmed that UCAT ANZ 2021 will take place online for some students who have not yet been able to sit UCAT due to lockdowns.  What does this mean for me? All candidates will be given the chance to sit UCAT by the end of September. Students who have a current UCAT test booking at a UCAT testing centre in the next week should continue with their scheduled UCAT testing appointment. This applies to students who are residing in a lockdown area and have their UCAT test booked at a testing centre which is open, and which they...

Preliminary UCAT ANZ 2021 Test Statistics Released!

UCAT ANZ 2021 preliminary statistics have been released, which will help students to interpret their UCAT 2021 scores. The majority of UCAT candidates have sat their 2021 UCAT test, so it is expected that the final UCAT summary statistics will not be very different from these figures. The UCAT 2021 preliminary statistics data is available at: https://www.ucat.edu.au/media/1469/preliminary-summary-statistics_august.pdf This UCAT data shows that: Students who achieved an overall scaled score of 2960 were in the 90th percentile, which is generally required for entry into standard undergraduate medical degrees (UCAT scores required are lower for dentistry, rural students, local students, bonded students and those...

I didn’t get a good enough UCAT score – what should I do?

The UCAT testing period is a big month for many students across Australasia and even other countries around the world. For information on what is a 'good' UCAT score, check out our dedicated blog. It can feel really disappointing if, like me, you logged in to see your UCAT score report and were met with a non-competitive score. I understand that it can feel like the world is ending, and all hopes have been flushed down the toilet, but I am here to tell you otherwise! My Story When I was in year 12, I made my first attempt of getting into...

UCAT 2021, COVID AND LOCKDOWN: WHAT SHOULD I DO?

With recent outbreaks of COVID-19 across Australia, and some states being plunged into lockdown, you might be wondering how this will impact on UCAT 2021, and what you should be doing. This blog discusses the issue and offers five key tips. How will lockdowns impact COVID-19? Each state with a COVID-19 outbreak will have specific governmental restrictions relating to movement around the state. In some cases, this may mean that you cannot leave your home to sit UCAT during the lockdown period. If your UCAT 2021 test is scheduled during the lockdown period, you will receive an email notification from Pearson...

5 Tips for UCAT Exam Day

1. Don’t panic This might sound like another one of those easier said than done things that people around you might say, but it’s actually so important on the day itself! Plan ahead in advance for transportation to and from the UCAT exam centre. If you are taking public transport, keep in mind the possible delays caused and try to adjust for it. Better yet, get your family members to drop you off at the UCAT testing centre. This will reduce your worries and allow you to reach the UCAT centre smoothly. Even though this might sound like a negligible tip,...

5 UCAT Tips from a student who scored >3500!

Tim was a MedEntry student who achieved a whopping 3520 in the UCAT last year, which was the highest score achieved. Tim is now studying medicine at the University of New South Wales. In this blog, Tim shares his top 5 UCAT tips. 1. Periodically Check Your UCAT Timing While doing the UCAT, it’s very easy to get lost in the questions, focusing on reading and answering each one correctly. However, this carries the risk of running out of time, or not getting as many questions done as you would have hoped. Learning to quickly see if you’re on pace to...

HOW WILL UCAT ANZ 2021 BE DELIVERED?

With the continued COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing threat of last minute lockdowns and travel restrictions, you may be wondering, how will UCAT ANZ 2021 be delivered? How did UCAT ANZ 2020 take place? Last year, UCAT proceeded mostly as normal, despite the fact that there was a Victorian lockdown during the UCAT testing period. The vast majority of candidates sat UCAT as planned, in a testing centre, during the month of July. There were some additional precautions taken by Pearson VUE relating to hygiene measures and social distancing, which led to some students having to reschedule their UCAT testing date and...

5 reasons to start your UCAT preparation now!

1. Master the UCAT Learning Curve The UCAT is a test unlike anything you have ever sat before. UCAT Verbal Reasoning is loosely connected to traditional reading comprehension texts and UCAT Quantitative Reasoning is mathematics-based, but both the style and time pressure is truly unique. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that you will have ever encountered formal testing in the areas of UCAT Decision Making, UCAT Abstract Reasoning and UCAT Situational Judgement. Naturally, it will take an adjustment period to learn how to answer all the many different types of UCAT questions, recognising how long you have to answer each UCAT...

Why 6 weeks preparation isn't enough for UCAT

UCAT Consortium Universities (UCATCU) claim that intensive, sustained preparation for UCAT is not necessary. They advise that 6 weeks of preparation is sufficient for UCAT. There are many reasons why UCATCU make such claims. To give yourself the best chance of succeeding in UCAT, it is important that you are sceptical of these claims.  UCATCU’s claims are designed to discourage students from undergoing extended UCAT preparation. Just as some elite schools, universities and hospitals provide a better service and 'value-add' more, reputable UCAT preparation institutions such as MedEntry do the same to your UCAT score. But admitting this fact goes against the philosophy...

4 Steps to Transform your Weakest UCAT Subtest into your Strongest

Although I had been preparing for UCAT for over 6 months, with less than 2 weeks to go until the UCAT, I still wasn't feeling confident about UCAT Abstract Reasoning. I was consistently scoring in the high 80th or 90th percentiles for other UCAT subtests on the MedEntry online platform, but was still ranging from 40-70th percentile in UCAT Abstract Reasoning. Since I was happy with my performance in the other UCAT sections, I decided to do some intensive UCAT Abstract Reasoning study to improve my skills as much as possible before my UCAT exam. This involved doing a couple of...

Is UCAT getting more competitive? Will UCAT 2021 be even harder?

The UCAT score required for a given percentile has gone up in 2020 compared to 2019. For example, last year a score of 2850 translated to 90th UCAT percentile whereas a score of 2920 was required for the same UCAT percentile ranking in 2020. This is in spite of a small drop in the total number of students sitting UCAT. There are many reasons which contributed to this increase. They include a better prepared cohort of students due to a better knowledge of the UCAT, and Pearson Vue underestimating the level of preparedness of the candidates sitting UCAT this year.  Does...
