Neither of these worked for me, and over the remainder of the year I learnt some important lessons about keeping the balance. Not only was I happier and more well-rounded as a result, I was also able to succeed in both UCAT and in my final exams.   The golden rule for staying well-rounded is that...

New LMS Feature – Exam Review Progress Tracking

After completing a practice exam on the LMS, we strongly recommend that you spend considerable time reviewing your answers. Since this process can take a long time, and may need to be done over multiple sessions, the LMS will now keep track of you are up to in each of your exam reviews. For example, if you were reviewing Exam 5, Question 73, and you close the LMS – the system will remember which part of the Exam you are reviewing, and the next time you continue the exam review, you will be taken directly to this question. You can review...

Persisting Through Underwhelming Marks

Disappointed with your scores? Vinay scored 100th percentile in UMAT and in this video, he shares his tips for persisting through underwhelming marks.

How to Interpret Scores and Feedback from MedEntry’s Practice Exams

So you’ve completed a practice exam and have no idea how to interpret the wealth of information and statistics you’ve been presented with. This blog has some tips to help you gain a better grasp of your UMAT preparation progress.   1. Look at percentile not percentage . The UMAT is a test designed to compare students against each other, thereby giving the universities a clearer indication of the stronger candidates. This is much like the ATAR. As such, they do not care about what score you received, but rather, where you were ranked. The UMAT is hard – so do...

Group versus individual study for UMAT

Should I prepare for the UMAT with friends or alone?  It’s a question many students ask themselves leading up to a major exam, including the UMAT. Although the answer will vary depending on personal preference, this article will endeavour to discuss some of the benefits and drawbacks of both group and individual preparation. Staying in control during the UMAT

Below are a few useful tips as to how to stay in control during the UMAT.  Distractions: One of the things you'll probably have to deal with during the UMAT is distractions. This may be someone sniffling, or coughing, or tapping a pencil. In fact there have even been stories of distractions ranging from pile drivers at a nearby construction site to the school's symphonic band practicing outside!  The most important thing is to not let these distractions get to you, use them as a reminder to get back to the UMAT in front of you.  Keep moving while the clock...

UMAT Books

Have you ever thought about  using books to prepare for the UMAT?   Before you go and spend your money on UMAT books there are a few things worth considering:   Unlike online materials which can be regularly updated, the publisher of such books is unable to amend them in keeping with the frequent changes that do occur in the UMAT. There is no way of seeing other reader reviews of such publications, so how will you know what your peers think of them? Is the author well versed in all facets of the UMAT and how much experience do they...

Improving your Critical Thinking Skills

Everyone has their own concept of the world, of how they interpret and predict stimuli. This “concept” is underpinned by their philosophical approach to life. Whilst philosophy may seem to be a branch of knowledge best left for academics, the truth is we all utilize some form of it. It surprises some people when they are told they use philosophy in just about everything they do – even science. The way we gain knowledge and enquire about it is greatly impacted by how we view the world. In the UMAT, you will encounter questions that require you to evaluate a...
