How to Interpret Your UMAT Results

What do the numbers on the Statement of Results mean? Your 2018 UMAT Statement of Results will display two measures of your performance: UMAT score and UMAT percentile.  Your overall UMAT score is the sum of your three section scores. The section scores are derived (scaled) from your raw score (the number of questions you got right) using statistical methods that are not made publicly available by ACER. Note that you will never know your raw score. Section scores normally, but not always, range in value from 0-20 to 100. The maximum overall score possible is theoretically 300, but in reality...

UMAT Scoring Myths

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation on the internet and on forums about how UMAT scores are calculated. Some people and companies claim that your UMAT score or percentile ranking can be calculated from your raw score (the number of questions you got right). This is naïve, simplistic and demonstrates ignorance. Not to mention it is irresponsible to provide students with incorrect information. ACER uses a complex computer program to calculate UMAT scores. Even if you buy it (it costs a few thousand dollars), you cannot replicate the results since the assumptions ACER uses to run the program is kept...

AN EXPLANATION OF UMAT RESULTS: HOW ARE UMAT RESULTS CALCULATED? AND OTHER UMAT RESULTS FAQS.

HOW ARE UMAT RESULTS CALCULATED? Unfortunately ACER does not release the marking scheme that is used determine UMAT scores. There is some speculation as to the following: answering a question correctly that is not answered correctly by the majority of UMAT candidates will be weighted more heavily. And conversely, answering a question incorrectly that most UMAT candidates do answer correctly, will be weighted more heavily against a candidate’s UMAT score. However, because ACER does not release the marking scheme or question weightings for the UMAT it is impossible to be absolutely certain of this. What is certain though, is the more...

UMAT Prep: Establish your personal scoring goals

Your main goal should be to maximise your potential on the actual UMAT test. Very few students get every question right. You have to be realistic. Strive to work within your own abilities. Students often ask: How does my in-class performance translate to how I will perform on the actual UMAT test? Questions are “graded” for difficulty throughout the  MedEntry UMAT prep  tests and in the actual test in July.  In order to get a high score (of above 90 th  percentile) generally you have to be nearly perfect on the easy questions, score at least 80 percent on the hard...
