Interview Offers Are Being Released

Getting into medicine and dentistry is a complicated process. Part of this includes navigating the various university interview offers that are released at different times.
Below is a table of the various universities offering interviews for medicine and dentistry undergraduate courses around Australia and New Zealand, the interview type, interview invitation dates and actual interview dates. Dates change at short notice and can differ for rural or international applicants, so always confirm on the university’s website.

Note: The University of Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholars Program doesn’t interview at application. Students sit an MMI in their final undergraduate year before progressing to the Doctor of Medicine.

Rural applicants
Universities typically prioritise rural applicants and often include them in the first round of interviews alongside local applicants, even if they are interstate students. For example, Monash runs a separate first round for applicants on its Dean’s Rural List, and UNSW interviews Rural Entry Admission Pathway applicants in late November, almost a month before its general first round. Central Queensland University and the University of Southern Queensland rank interview invitations in tiers, starting with applicants from their own regions before moving on to other rural areas and then all other applicants.
Undergraduate courses not conducting interviews for 2027 entry
The following undergraduate programs will not hold interviews for 2027 entry into medicine or dentistry:
- Griffith University (provisional medicine)
- James Cook University (dentistry)
- La Trobe University (dentistry)
- University of the Sunshine Coast (Pathway to Medicine – provisional entry to Griffith)
- Flinders University (provisional medicine)
- University of Queensland (dentistry)
- University of Tasmania
- University of Otago
Get ready for your interview
Being well-informed about key interview dates and the entire application process is a crucial step in your journey towards medical school. Some universities give very little notice between invitation and interview: UNSW sends its first-round invitations on 16 December for interviews starting the very next day, and the University of Sydney gives just two days’ notice before its first assessment day. Don’t wait for an invitation to start preparing. Best of luck with your upcoming interviews, and don’t forget to undergo quality interview training!
